LA POSADA DEL BUEN PASTOR IN LIMA, PERU

This is a home for children impacted by HIV/AIDs. Food is a needed commodity. The information was presented to Orphan Train Intermediary Carlos Rioja by the Colonial Rotary Club of Lima. The Posadita of the Good Shepherd is operated by the Charity Congregation of the Good Shepherd. This Order of nuns works with a growing population segment that has been excluded from society. Their mission is providing a better quality of life, care and education to children of HIV carriers. The nuns have another project called Reina De La Paz, which gives shelter, as well as moral and psychological support to young mothers and women who have been abused and prostituted.   

PRELIMINARY INFORMATION

 
After several visits and meetings with the people in charge of the orphanage leaded by the director of the institution Sister Celina, we have concluded that the most needy and urgent requirements of our institution are: perishable food.

As you can understand the most pivotal needs (given that our government gives to the “Posadita” the medicines and treatment for the mother and children infected with HIV) are food and shelter.

We can count on shelter, but sometimes, despite the ongoing and humanitarian help we receive from charitable people (basically non-perishable food like canned milk, sugar, beans, etc) we are always stressed and hurry for getting on time and the appropriate food for our HIV infected guests in our “Posadita Del buen pastor”.

Food for our children is a cornerstone not only for their quality of life but also for them to keep alive.

We have estimated that U.S. ANNUAL budget 6000.00 will cover our needs.

At the end of our last visit to the institution, we were witnesses of the great effort of their staff, working enthusiastically to promote an activity scheduled for next December 7, wich, involved the entire community of Magdalena.

It is our wish that this work continues to grow to keep helping the neediest children of our hometown.
